Touring Hungary
Hungary is an interesting and varied destination with a fascinating history and a unique modern and folk culture. The thriving international capital of Budapest, attracts visitors to its rich architectural delights, buzzing music scene and relaxing spas. It's also an ideal centre from which to explore the nearby Danube Bend or perhaps take a day trip to the picturesque shores of Lake Balaton.
Ubiquitous live gypsy music in taverns and restaurants is a compelling aspect of this country. Hungarian food is delicious and combined with live music and good local wine, it is easy to enjoy an excellent and inexpensive night out.

Visiting Budapest
One in five Hungarians lives in the beautiful, lively city of Budapest. The city is divided into two parts, Buda and Pest by the Danube River. The Castle District, where you will find the Fishermen's Bastion and the ornate Matthias Church is the most prominent landmark on the Buda side of the river. From the bastion you can enjoy fantastic views across the Danube to the impressive Parliament buildings on the Pest side of the river. As well as numerous museums, historic buildings and excellent shops, Budapest boasts a fantastic nightlife, an excellent cog railway journey into the Buda hills and several historic spas.
Visitors to Budapest usually take a day trip to the Danube Bend, an excursion which includes visits to the magnificent Esztergom Cathedral, the fortress at Visegrád and the picturesque artists' village at Szentendre.
Visiting Lake Balaton
Balatonfüred is the oldest and most popular resort on the shores of Lake Balaton, famous for its thermal spa waters with curative properties which have been used to cure stomach ailments for centuries. As well as a place of bathing, the town also became an important meeting place for intellectuals in the 19th Century. Here you can enjoy swimming, boating and cycling, or visit the impressive Lóczy Caves which are a pleasant walk from the town centre.
The Tihany Peninsular cuts across the northern part of the lake and is one of the most beautiful spots on Lake Balaton. Visit the beautiful Baroque Abbey and Monastery on the peninsular; and enjoy walking along the shores of its inner lake "Lake Belsó" which is rich in flora and fauna
